Today we are looking at the power of Omega 3 and 6 polyunsaturated fats and how to effortlessly get more of them into your body with nuts and seeds. This one practice can impact your health and energy throughout the day.
Getting enough in your diet can make a big difference.
For most of us, our bodies are deficient in Omega 3’s. Research has shown most Americans eat 10 to 25 times more Omega 6’s than Omega 3’s. Having more balance can mutually enhance the health benefits as they work together to support your body’s organs, your mood, and your overall well-being.
During the hunter-gatherer days, the Omega 6 to Omega 3 ratio was 1:2, and in the fishing communities where fishing was prevalent, it was closer to a 1:1 because of the ease of availability of Omega 3’s from fish.
Both Omega 3 and Omega 6 are essential fatty acids. Strangely enough, our bodies do not make Omega 3 and Omega 6 fats, thus we need to supplement our bodies with other sources of food.
Omega 3’s are polyunsaturated fats and are beneficial to our heart health and brain health.
Flaxseeds and Chia seeds are a great source of Omega 3’s with a 1:3 ratio of Omega 6’s to Omega 3’s for Chia seeds and a 1:4 ratio for flaxseeds.
Below is a chart from Wikipedia of the Omega 6 and Omega 3 ratios with many of your favorite nuts and seeds.
Eating seeds and nuts can help narrow the essential fatty acid gap for better health, organs, and mood.
